Toy Story 1
Woody, a pull-string cowboy doll, is the leader of a group of toys that belong to a boy named Andy Davis and come to life when humans are not in sight. With his family moving to a new home and having a party, both one week before his birthday, the toys stage a reconnaissance mission to discover Andy's new presents. Andy receives a space ranger Buzz Lightyear action figure, whose interesting features threaten Woody's position as Andy's favorite toy. Buzz does not realize that he is a toy when Woody attempts to convince him and thinks that he is a real space ranger. The other toys begin to admire Buzz for his new features but Woody becomes jealous of his new replacement.
Andy prepares to go to a family outing at a space-themed Pizza Planet restaurant with Buzz. Filled with hatred for Buzz, Woody does not want Buzz to be Andy's favourite toy and he attempts to misplace him, but knocks him out a window instead. With Buzz missing, Andy takes Woody to Pizza Planet with him instead. However, Buzz climbs into the car and confronts Woody when they stop at a gas station. The two toys fight and accidentally fall out of the car, which drives off and leaves them behind. Woody sees a pickup truck bound for Pizza Planet and plans to rendezvous with Andy there, convincing Buzz to come with him by saying that the pickup truck can take him to his home planet. Once at Pizza Planet, Buzz makes his way into a claw game machine shaped like a spaceship, thinking that it is the ship that Woody had promised him. Inside, he finds a horde of squeaky aliens who revere the machine's claw arm as their master. When Woody follows Buzz into the game to try to rescue him, the two of them along with one of the aliens are captured by Andy's next door neighbor, Sid Phillips, who likes to torture and destroy toys for fun.
At Sid's house, the two stage numerous toys attempts to escape before Andy's family's moving day, encountering nightmarish hodge-podge toys of Sid's creation as well as Sid's vicious dog, Scud. Buzz sees a commercial for Buzz Lightyear action figures just like himself and realizes that Woody was right about him being a toy. Unable to face the truth, Buzz tries to prove he is still a space ranger by attempting to fly out of the window, but falls and loses one of his arms. Buzz becomes too depressed over the truth to participate in Woody's escape plan which forces Woody to try and get the other toys attention in Andy's room by waving Buzz's disconnected arm, but the other toys distrust him for what happened to Buzz and leave him behind. Woody realizes that Sid's mutant toys are friendly when they fix Buzz's arm but is forced to hide when Sid enters, leaving Buzz behind. Sid prepares to destroy Buzz by strapping him to a rocket, but is delayed by a thunderstorm and sleeps for the night. Woody convinces Buzz life is worth living even if he is not a space ranger because of the joy he can bring to Andy, and helps Buzz regain his spirit. Cooperating with Sid's mutant toys, Woody stages a rescue for Buzz and scares Sid away by coming to life in front of him. However, the two miss Andy's car as it drives away to his new house.
Running down the road, they climb onto a moving truck but Scud chases them and Buzz tackles the dog to save Woody. Woody attempts to rescue Buzz with Andy's RC car but the other toys, who think that Woody got rid of RC, toss Woody off onto the road. Spotting Woody driving RC back with Buzz alive, the other toys realize their mistake and try to help them into the truck. When RC's batteries become depleted, Woody ignites the rocket on Buzz's back and manages to throw RC into the moving truck just in time before they go soaring into the air. Buzz then opens his wings to cut himself free before he and Woody glide through the air and land safely into the car. Andy looks in the box and is relieved to have found Woody and Buzz.
On Christmas Eve at their new house, Buzz and Woody stage another reconnaissance mission to prepare for the new toy arrivals, one of which is a Mrs. Potato Head, much to the delight of Mr. Potato Head. Woody jokingly asks Buzz "What could Andy possibly get that is worse than you?", a question which is immediately answered; Andy's new gift, as it turns out, is a puppy, and the two share a worried smile.
Toy Story 2
Woody prepares to go to cowboy camp with Andy, but his arm accidentally gets ripped by Andy, and is forced to stay home where he is put on a junk shelf. When Woody saves a toy penguin named Wheezy from a yard sale, he gets stolen by a toy collector who Buzz Lightyear and the other toys recognize as Al McWhiggin, the greedy, avaricious owner of a shop named Al's Toy Barn, from a commercial. Buzz, Hamm, Mr. Potato Head, Slinky Dog, and Rex then set out to rescue Woody.
In Al's apartment, Woody discovers that he is a valuable collectible based on an old, popular TV show called Woody's Roundup, and is set to be sold to a toy museum in Tokyo. The other toys from the show–Jessie the yodeling cowgirl, Woody's horse Bullseye, and Stinky Pete the Prospector, are excited about the trip, but Woody intends to return home because he is still Andy's toy. Jessie who is nyctophobic (afraid of the dark) becomes greatly embittered towards Woody because the museum will only take the gang if Woody is part of it; without him, they go back into storage. That night, when the whole of Woody's arm comes off, his attempt to retrieve it and escape, is foiled when the TV comes on. Woody, seeing the remote in front of Jessie, accuses her of sabotaging his escape. The following morning Woody's arm is repaired and he decides to stay when Jessie reveals that she was once the beloved toy of a child named Emily who eventually outgrew and gave her away, and Stinky Pete pensively warns him that the same fate will await him when Andy grows up.
Meanwhile, Buzz and the other toys reach the Al's Toy Barn. While searching the store for Woody, Buzz is captured and imprisoned in a box by a newer Buzz Lightyear action figureafter a confusion between the two and the New Buzz's utter delusion. The new Buzz then joins the other toys, oblivious to the fact he is an imposter, as they make their way to Al's apartment. Buzz escapes and pursues them, thinking they have also been captured by Al. When he gets out of Al's Toy Barn, he unknowingly and accidentally releasing an action figure of his archenemy Emperor Zurg who follows him.
Buzz rejoins the others as soon as they find Woody, who initially refuses to return because he does not want to abandon the rest of the Roundup Gang to storage. After Buzz reminds Woody of a toy's true purpose and after he is moved by seeing himself sing "You've Got a Friend in Me", he gradually changes his mind and offers the Roundup toys a chance to come with him. However, Stinky Pete prevents their escape and reveals that he wants to go to Japan because he spent his life in a shelf and was never sold, so he took measures to prevent Woody from returning home; he was the one who sabotaged Woody's escape the previous night. Al then arrives and takes Woody and the Roundup toys with him, forcing both Buzz Lightyears and the rest of Andy's toys to follow him. They follow Al to an elevator where they encounter Zurg who fights the new Buzz but is knocked off the elevator by Rex. When they reach the ground floor, the new Buzz remains behind to play with Zurg once he discovers that Zurg is his father (echoing The Empire Strikes Back).
Buzz and the other toys use a Pizza Planet delivery truck to follow Al to the airport where they enter the check-in area, the baggage processing area and find Woody and the roundup toys. Stinky Pete fights Woody while trying to stop them but they capture and stuff him into a little girl's backpack. While Woody and Bullseye are saved, Jessie ends up being loaded on the airplane to go to Japan. Woody boards the plane and convinces Jessie to come with him and the rest of the toys to Andy's house. However, the plane begins to taxi before they can escape. They get out of the hold through an emergency hatch but Woody slips. Buzz and Bullseye catch up with them as the plane gets onto the runway. After lassoeing his string over a nut on the plane's wheels, Woody convinces Jessie to let go of the plane. They swing right between the wheels and land on Bullseye just as the plane takes off. Buoyed up by living "Woody's Finest Hour," the toys go home.
Andy returns home and accepts Jessie and Bullseye as his new toys. The toys also learn from a commercial that Al's business has suffered due to his failure to sell the Roundup toys to Japan. As the new toys delight in having a new owner, Woody tells Buzz that he is not worried about Andy outgrowing him, because when he does, they will always have each other for company "for infinity and beyond."
Toy Story 3
Andy, now nearly 18 years old,[11] goes out to college, and his toys feel like they have been abandoned as they have not been played with for several years. Andy decides to take Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks) with him to college and puts Buzz (voiced by Tim Allen) and the rest of the toys in a trash bag for storage in the attic. However, the toys are accidentally thrown out when Andy's mom finds the bag and puts it out on the curb, causing the toys to think that they are no longer wanted. They escape and decide to climb in a donation box for the Sunnyside Daycare. Woody, the only toy who saw what actually happened, follows the other toys and tries to explain they were thrown out by mistake, but they refuse to believe him.
Andy's toys are welcomed by the many toys at Sunnyside and given a tour of the seemingly perfect play-setting by Lots-O'-Huggin' Bear(simply known as Lotso), Big Baby and Ken, whom Barbie falls for. All of the toys immediately love their new home, leaving a steadfast Woody alone in an attempt to return to Andy. However, after Woody leaves, Buzz discovers that the daycare is like a prison during night and is captured by Lotso who gains his allegiance by having him reverted to demonstration mode, restoring his original "space ranger"persona. The other toys discover that Woody was right about Andy but Lotso, with Buzz's help, prevents them from leaving the daycare. Meanwhile, Woody's escape attempt falls short and he is found outside by Bonnie, an imaginative little girl. She takes him home and plays with him along with her other toys, who are well-treated, happy, and readily welcome Woody. Woody is relieved until he hears about Lotso's back story from Chuckles the sad clown. Lotso, along with Chuckles and Big Baby, were once accidentally lost by their original owner, Daisy. The three found their way back to Daisy's home, but Lotso saw that he had been replaced with a similar toy bear. Though Chuckles realized the truth, Lotso convinced Big Baby that they had all been replaced. The three of them made their way to Sunnyside, which Lotso took over as his personal fiefdom, running it like a prison at night. Worried for his friends, Woody hurries back to the daycare to find that they have been confined to the room with the rambunctious youngest toddlers.
Woody rejoins his friends and they stage an escape plan. In the process, Buzz is accidentally reset into a delusional Spanish mode, but Buzz allies himself with Woody's friends. The toys reach a dumpster but are caught by Lotso and his gang. As a garbage truck approaches, Woody reveals what he heard about Lotso, leading Big Baby to toss him in the dumpster. Seeking revenge, Lotso pulls Woody in with him just as the garbage truck collects the garbage. Woody's friends fall into the back of the truck trying to rescue him. A falling television hits Buzz when he tries to save Jessie, finally returning him to his normal self. The toys find themselves at the dump and are pushed onto a conveyor belt leading to a trash crusher. Woody and Buzz save Lotso just in time as he is about to be crushed. Woody and the other toys are then pushed onto another conveyor belt leading to an incinerator. The toys help Lotso reach an emergency stop button, but he leaves them to their deaths. Thinking that this is the end, the toys grasp each other's hands. The toys are eventually rescued by the Aliens using a giant claw. Lotso makes his way outside, but a passing truck driver finds Lotso and straps him to the radiator grill of his truck. Meanwhile, Woody and his friends board a neighborhood trash truck back to Andy's house.
